In the course of the meeting, the Parties discussed future presidential elections in Ukraine and on cooperation between observers and state authorities for ensuring their security and efficient activity.
According to Oleksandr Turchynov, presidential elections of May 25 will complete the process of forming the system of government in our country.
He stressed that the biggest problems with elections will occur on the territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea which is occupied by the Russian military.
“However, the Central Election Commission is doing everything possible so that Crimean citizens could vote on the mainland of Ukraine”, he said, stressing that, in the first place, it concerns Kherson Oblast which borders Crimea, “or, at their sole option, Crimean citizens will be able to vote in other regions of Ukraine”.
Apart from this, the Chairman of the Parliament claimed that the situation remains quite difficult in some places of Luhansk and Donetsk Oblasts “where terrorists are trying to seize electoral commissions, to blackmail citizens, and to do everything to prevent holding transparent and fair elections”.
“However, these local provocations will not influence the general result of elections in the country”, he said, stressing that the government is doing everything so that our citizens could vote in all regions of Ukraine.
In this context, he claimed that the government is interested in cooperating with the OSCE mission observers.
In her turn, Tana de Zulueta stressed that the current mission is the biggest in the history of elections in Ukraine.
“We are grateful for an early invitation which allowed a hundred of long-term observers to start their work already on March 20”, she said, adding that tomorrow the mission’s leadership will meet with 900 short-term observers.
In her words, on the day of elections, around 200 European MPs will joint the mission.
“For us, holding elections in Ukraine is extremely important”, stressed Tana de Zulueta, adding that the mission wants “the observers to be present in all places where the elections will be held”.
